RealAge Tip of the DAY for July 22, 2003
A New Nutrient in Town
Toss some parsley into your sandwiches and salads for a dose of the newest nutrient on the block.

Japanese researchers have discovered a new vitamin, pyrroloquinoline quinone, or PQQ. The nutrient appears to play an important role in fertility, according to animal studies, and researchers speculate that other health benefits will be revealed. Good sources of PQQ include parsley, green tea, green peppers, and kiwi fruit.

Prior to the discovery of PQQ (pyrroloquinoline quinone), the last time a new vitamin was discovered was in 1948. It is believed that PQQ is a member of the B vitamin group. Although it is not available in commercial supplements, food sources are available. They include parsley, green tea, green peppers, kiwi fruit, papaya, and natto -- a Japanese dish made of fermented soybeans.
RealAge Benefit: Eating a diverse diet that is low in calories and high in nutrients can make your RealAge as much as 4 years younger.
