Causes: Allergies (Allergic Rhinitis)
Allergies can cause a stuffy or runny nose, often accompanied by itchy, watery eyes. A runny nose caused by allergies generally produces a thin, clear discharge, and lots of it.
Allergic rhinitis may be seasonal (usually spring to fall) or year round, depending on whether it's triggered by pollen, dust, mold spores, animal dander, or some other allergen. The body's allergic response to these airborne irritants is to release histamines, which cause the mucous membrane of the nose to become inflamed (stuffy nose) and produce excess mucus (runny nose).
If you think you may have allergies, check your symptoms with the RealAge Allergies Assessment, and make an appointment to talk to your doctor.
