What Aggravates Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a recurring chronic condition that can flare up without any apparent cause. But some activities, such as staying in the sun too long or wearing clothes that chafe the skin, aggravate it. Episodes can also be triggered by stress, dry skin, infections (such as strep throat), reactions to medications, and more.

Avoid scratching or vigorous rubbing as much as possible. If you are treating psoriasis with natural light therapy from the sun, be sure not to get burned; it can make lesions worse.

Some medications used to treat high blood pressure, depression, and other conditions can irritate psoriasis. These include beta blockers (such as Inderal), angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (such as lisinopril), lithium, and gold-based drugs.
