Common Skin Conditions -- Birthmarks
Birthmarks are areas of skin discoloration that are present since birth. There are two common kinds of birthmarks:
- Red birthmarks are due to the accumulation of blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
- Pigmented birthmarks are due to a concentration of pigment in a certain skin area. The color of the pigmented area can vary widely depending on an individual's skin tone and ethnicity.
Moles that are present at birth are considered birthmarks as well.
