Psoriasis is an immune system disorder characterized by red, itchy, scaly patches of skin. It is caused by the immune system attacking the body's own skin cells, causing the skin to grow too fast. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and they may come and go over time.
Psoriasis may appear anywhere on the body, but it commonly affects the knees, elbows, scalp, and areas with skin folds. Certain foods, medications, illnesses, alcohol, or stress may trigger flare-ups.
