Common Skin Conditions -- Varicose Veins

Get personalized skin care advice for your unique skin. Take the Skin Care Assessment.

Varicose veins are enlarged blood vessels visible near the surface of the skin, usually in the legs. They are caused by improperly functioning valves in blood vessels that allow blood to pool in the veins, which stretches the veins out and makes them more visible through the surface of the skin.

In some cases, the condition may be associated with pain and swelling in the ankles.

Pregnancy and standing for long periods of time increase the risk of varicose veins.
