Common Skin Conditions -- Warts
Warts are small skin lesions caused by a virus. The viruses that cause warts can be transmitted from person to person. A wart may be rough or smooth, flat or raised, and is usually hard to the touch. Warts are typically a different color than the surrounding skin.
Different varieties of warts can appear on different parts of the body. For example, some wart varieties typically appear on the soles of the feet. Other varieties can affect the face or the hands. Warts that affect the genitals and surrounding areas may be sexually transmitted diseases.
Most warts can be removed through medications, cryotherapy, or excision. Treatment choices depend on the type and location of the wart. However, the virus that caused a wart will remain in the body even after the wart is removed.
