Screening for Alcoholism

If you suspect that you or someone you know has a drinking problem, answer the questions below to help you decide if you should get help. Anyone who answers yes to two or more of the following questions may have a problem with alcohol and should make an appointment to talk with a health professional:

  • Have you ever felt that you should cut down on your drinking?
  • Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
  • Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking?
  • Have your ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (an eyeopener)?

Answering "yes" to only one question may indicate a potential problem. Consider the amount that you drink and how often. Make an appointment to talk with a healthcare professional to discuss your risks.
