The following is a list of guidelines for anticoagulant therapy:

- Do not engage in high risk activities that may result in injury and cause severe bleeding, such as horseback riding, skiing, contact sports, etc.
- Report easy bruising or bleeding to the doctor right away.
- Do not use a razor for shaving; use a blade-free electric shaver.
- Wear an ID bracelet to alert medical personnel of anticoagulant therapy in the event of an emergency.
- Get regular check-ups and blood tests as scheduled.
- Discuss all medications, herbs, vitamins, or supplements with a healthcare provider. Some may affect the way blood thinners work. Do not take aspirin or fish oil supplements with anticoagulant therapy.
