Scarlet Fever

If a sore throat is accompanied by a red, sandpaper-like rash on the trunk of the body, in the groin area, or on the extremities and by a fever, it could be scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is caused by streptococcal bacteria and must be treated with antibiotics. A visit to the doctor is needed to diagnose and treat scarlet fever.
