Learn More: Insect Bites & Stings

Symptoms

An insect bite or a sting can cause swelling, redness, and itching. The reaction of minor bites is a temporary bump on the skin, which may itch for a few hours. Most reactions are only in the local area of the bite and can last from as little as 30 minutes for a mosquito bite, to several days of skin irritation, redness, and discomfort, for example, with some spider bites. The bee leaves its stinger in the skin and stings only once, whereas a wasp and many other insects can sting or bite more than once.
