About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Marketing and Advertising Solutions to create, lead, manage, and grow a new marketing and advertising solutions (MAS) function, which will develop client programs that are sold by the sales force. The MAS head will combine content and marketing roles, act as a bridge between the marketplace and RealAge, and be the expert in what clients want and what RealAge can provide.
The person who leads this effort for RealAge has to be tough. Tough and creative. Tough and smart. Tough and smooth. Because not every situation will be harmonious, synchronized, and truly differentiating. The facts: We have revenue targets. Success comes from compromise. And this function will need to constantly balance the short-term goal -- generating as much revenue as quickly as possible -- with the long-term viability of the brand. And vice versa. There is lots of vice versa in this function.
This will not be an easy function. But it will be highly creative and intellectually stimulating, and it will fill a vital new need in our company.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Product Management: determines what should be created and, with input from a senior editor and designer, creates the products that are sold to clients
- Must understand client and RealAge member needs and guide the creation of offerings and experiences that solve for both constituents
- Receives input from all sources: client/agency (through sales force); third-party sources (pharma, online, health, advertising, and other business media and information sources)
- Filters input and puts into context for both RealAge member-facing stakeholders (Content, Product Management and Planning, Marketing, Member Services), and client-facing stakeholders (Sales, Marketing)
- Writes up recommendations and provides analysis for what products should be developed; creates creative briefs with input from stakeholders; effectively liaises between editors and salespeople
- Marketing Intelligence: owner of sales/client needs to the business
- Partner with other departments to ensure voice/needs of clients are represented throughout company decision-making processes
- Marketing Communications: owner of RealAge's client sales materials
- Using internal and external resources, writes and creates marketing and presentation materials that sell revenue-generating client offerings
As business and operational demands dictate, additional duties may be assigned and expected to be performed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have
- A BA or BS degree and 7–10 years of experience and a proven, successful track record in hands-on development and creation of winning advertising and marketing programs
- Professional written and verbal presentation and communication skills
- Ability to partner and communicate effectively at all levels, including with the executive team of RealAge and its parent, Hearst Corporation
- Ability to pass a writing and presentation test -- a requirement for this position
RealAge offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Please e-mail your resume and cover letter, including salary requirements, to careers@realage.com. Reference "Director, MAS" in the subject line of your e-mail. No phone calls please.
