Black and Hispanic Women Largely Unaware of Heart Disease Risks
RealAge "goes red" with quick heart checks and life-saving action plans
San Diego, CA, February 26, 2009 -- On the whole, American women are getting far savvier about heart disease, the leading cause of death among them. Yet studies show black and Hispanic women remain largely unaware of the risks, in contrast to white women, whose awareness has risen significantly since 1997.
To tackle this disparity, RealAge.com is giving women quick and easy access to crucial, life-saving heart info and action plans. As part of the American Heart Association’s "Go Red For Women" campaign in February, RealAge has introduced the new Heart Health Center at http://www.realage.com/conditions-and-diseases/heart-health. Visitors to the center can check their heart’s fitness, evaluate their cholesterol risk, and develop a personalized heart-health action plan.
Michael Roizen, MD, and Mehmet Oz, MD, authors of the best-selling and recently updated YOU: The Owner’s Manual as well as other YOU books, work with RealAge to clue everyone in to Major Agers like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. In their latest book, YOU: Being Beautiful, Drs. Roizen and Oz report, "About 70% of aging is affected by simple things you do -- or don’t do."
