Can Muffins Prevent Gallstones?

Gallstones -- those pesky, painful pebbles that plague some people's gallbladders -- are no fun. But could a muffin keep you feeling fine?

Maybe. If it's an oat-bran muffin. Studies show that a diet high in magnesium-rich foods may reduce the risk of gallstones. Oat-bran muffins fit the bill.

I LOVE muffins. They are one of my favorite foods. I only occasionally make them with oatbran, so I will have to add it more often.

You can also buy it over the counter at all health food stores and even at wall mart and drugstores. My Dr. has me taking one pill 2 times a day and I can tell if I miss it one or two days. It does make a difference.

Oat Bran is wonderful for the nutrients as well as for regularity, read bulk. Wheat bran is also recommended for a good digestion and movement. Both are quite expensive in the little boxes. Quantity prices are best , ask your health food supermarket to sell it in bulk. Then get 1-2 lbs at a decent price. About the digestive track, when it needs adjustment, make a tea with ground GINGER (powder) and minimize stomach discomfort AND gas.

Oatbran can be cooked as a hot cereal. I am a breakfast cook at our local hospital. Oatbran porridge is on the menu a few times a week, alternating with oatmeal, cream of wheat and Red River cereal.

I find that a half of a zucchini helps me curb my appetite after supper when I tend to have the most trouble with appetite.

I make a personal size pot of green tea with jasmine in the morning and use the same tea bag for a refill in my pot. I also like to add saffron to my green tea and I use a tea strainer with it. Sometimes I can refill the pot all day making my tea cheaper and still good.

The Fiber One apple cinnamon muffin mix is fantastic when mixed with 1/2 can pumpkin,1 cup water and 1/2 cup eggbeaters--makes 18 muffins.

Thanks for a great article. I recently discovered oat bran for breakfast and love to put raisins, cinnamon, and honey in it. Can't get my family to eat it outright, so I sneak it into their pancake batter!

This is great to know considering the risk of future gallbladder-removal surgery I have thanks to my mom's side of the family... So far I've beat the odds by making it to age 24 without it, but I'll start adding upping my magnesium intake.
