REALAGE TIP

You Can Think Yourself Thin

Here's a novel weight-loss strategy. Before you take one single bite, think about your last meal -- every detail.

It may sound silly, but there's science behind the idea. People who did this in a study ate less overall. So before you snack, picture your lunch plate.

At our cafe we serve all our meals on smaller plates, the portion is the same it just looks bigger and since the plate is full you are not thinking you need more food. It works really well. And we serve a lot of fiber in our meals, the bulkiness of the fiber really fills you up without weighing you down.

Underweight, overweight and illness point to a very serious problem - an absence of self love. If you love yourself, you'll not hurt yourself in anyway. If you love yourself, you will not let lifestyle advertisements tell you what you should have or be to be happy and successful. Listen to your heart. It knows best what is good for you.

Alot of us tend to be less cautious about the foods we eat based on the degree of freshness. As a former health inspector of restaurants may I remind you.."When in doubt, throw it out!" If you have any concerns about the quality of food in your refrigerator or on you plate at a food service facility...do not take the chance of a Salmonella, E.Coli, Shigella, Listeria or even Hepatitis A infection especially with potentially hazardous foods. And, always remember to wash your hands in hot water with soap- for at least 20 seconds-to prevent cross contamination between potentially hazardous foods as well as before each meal...at home or away!!

Chewing gum is NOT a way to stave off cravings. Your chewing stimulates the production of saliva that goes down into your stomach without any food to digest and it ends up making you hungry when you otherwise would not be hungry. Those little tic-tac breath mints have the same effect but less, because less saliva is produced. Better to use one of those breath fresheners that you touch to your tongue to give it a fresh flavor without the saliva build-up. When dieting, your tongue can have an acidic bitterness which causes you to want to eat something to cleanse your palate. Oftentimes, I just brush my teeth an extra time each day. -- hope this tip helps!

Decide before you shop what you want to buy, make a list and buy ONLY those items. AVOID the chips and cookies isles or whatever isles contain your weaknesses, then reward yourself for sticking to your list with sugar free gum. Drink water WHILE shopping...it's a tangible reminder that you are health minded and fills you up so you aren't tempted to buy snacks. Serve meals on the counter buffet style so you don't keep piling up the food, purposefully take LESS than you really want and when you finish, wait 15 minutes before you serve yourself more. If you allow your body time to register that it has food, you will more often than not, feel satisfied and not want more. If you have to snack while watching TV reserve some food just for TV time, and make sure it's on hand, like cut vegetables or your daily salad...they don't always have to be served with your meal. And remember that your body NEEDS these kinds of foods so the more you eat the better!!!!
