A good alternative for eating fish is eating seaweed. It's loaded with omega fatty acids. I think you could get it from Japanese markets. In fact, fish eat seaweed and that is why they contain omega fatty acids.

Every morning, blend up a green drink of: celery, avocado, apple, spinach, bitter melon, cucumber, carrot, low fat yogurt for some fat, so that your body can absorb the vitamins better. Voila, I have about 3 to 4 servings already. At noon, wash down a salad with more of the same good stuff...That way, I make sure I get enough green servings everyday..

It seems to me we should find a happy medium. We are now so far removed from where we were in terms of good food production that the vegetarian vs onimivore has become a ridiculous issue. It seems to me starting with a good base of organic grown fruit and vege and very small amounts of high quality cuts of well grown grass/pasture fed meat is the way to go. When you get hold of quality (not chain supermarket) fruit and vege and meat your taste buds will come alive and so will your health. No horrible cauliflowers! Food will remind you of thirty years ago. You will be supporting an industry that is supporting you the consumer . Why not grow something for yourself? Doesn't take more than a moment to plant a bean in a pot and 2 minutes a day to care for it. And you will enjoy it! Whole exercise regime part of your vege gardening routine??? Personally I find it more enjoyable to pick my own produce that go to the supermarket.

I work with in the office with a ceritified nutritionist, and I have learned a great deal about nutrition from her. Humans need at least a small amout of meat in their diet. Fish is essential part of one's diet, because it is loaded with Omega oils and protein and is very low in fat.

Here's a great way to add more fruit and vegetables to your diet: V-8 juices has a new product called V-8 Fusion. It's a blended juice that contains a full serviing of fruit and vegetables in each 8 oz. serving. It comes in 5 flavors: Peach/Mango, Pomegranate/Blueberry, Strawberry/Banana, Acai Mixed Berry and Tropical Orange. It's absolutely delicious! You don't taste the vegetables at all, but they're in there. Also, there's no sugar added, and it's very high in anti-oxidants. Most grocery stores carry it, and you can also buy it at Wal Mart -- but good luck finding all flavors there. Wal Mart shoppers seem to clear the shelves of this stuff as soon as it's put out. I've been in Wal Mart and found 1 bottle left out of 3 shelves full. Try it - you'll love it!

@ Navi - for people who have problems with soy and don't want dairy, almond milk is a nice alternative. It is low calorie and very tasty.
@ Simmon - Problems with your back could be due to inflammation in your body. Eating more raw veggies might help, but if your body is not used to it you have to increase your raw food intake slowly or you might have even more gas!
Also acidopholus is great for getting rid of gas. It worked on myself and my daughter when nothing else did.

I have been vegetarian for more than 25 plus years and feel great. I disagree that humans are not vegetarians by nature. Especially if you are ovo-lacto, you can get more than enough protein from yogurt, beans, legumes, eggs, nuts and greens. Yes, I did say greens. They are much higher in protein than most veggies. I personally have about 10 servings of veggies a day, and it's easy if you make green smoothies. Throw in about 2 cups of a green such as lettuce or spinach with about 2 cups of fruit (frozen fruit makes it easy and fast and more refreshing) with 2 cups of water and puree it really well in a quality blender.
I also want to point out that I think one reason people feel better when they eat more veggies is because they eat less of other things which their bodies don't agree with. Wheat and soy allergies are so common I think it's a good idea to try cutting these out to see if you feel better than with those in your diet.

Humans are not vegetarians by nature. The transformation comes at a cost. Lifestyle changes by will power don't change the biology. Getting a balanced diet including animal protein is essencial. Vegans naturally will have more health issues that deal with bone and muscle structure. Legumes are your best veggie protein, but still lack essentail nutrients. Eat a balanced diet with excercise and regular mental activity.

Hi Simmon, I'm a vegetarian too. I get protein in my diet by drinking soya milk and eating soya products. Like soya burgers.
I also used to make a a power shake by blending blueberries, an apple, one glass of soya milk, and two tablespoons of vegen protein powder in a blender.

If you have sunburn by any means, you need fruits and veggies to eat, anyway!!! And, if you know what's happening to many bees with colony collapse disorder and more, why: you know we need to eat a lot of them to keep alive!!!!
