10 peas of garbanzo in a glass of water.
set it up in the evening.
In the morning when you wake up you drink it.
repeat it for 10 days it lower your cholesterol.

I have made falafel many, many times with mix from both the grocery and health food stores. It is delicious but you have to make sure you make a tahini or yogurt sauce to go with it, or it may be a little dry. I sometimes make as a sandwich in pita bread with lettuce and tomatoes.

Mix a chilled can of drained garbanzos with some minced garlic, minced red onion, chopped cilantro, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Great side salad.

I look at the study of different healthy foods.... here it's chickpeas, last week it was yogurt, the one following this is on nutrients you get from food found on a salad bar. All of these healthy foods are part of a complete picture of nutritional choices we can make. I eat other foods besides chickpeas. Yesterday I had a wonderful lentil soup. I find that the articles have a tendency to reinforce the healthy food choices I am already making. I really appreciate the positive look at individual foods.

Moderation in everything is the best way to go.If we eat as much of some foods as we need to get enough to help nutritionally we might gain weight. Also watch how ads are worded. If something says it may work,which is what most articles say, it may not work.

I not sure we should be TARGETING chickpeas alone. I consider this research somewhat misleading. Did the researchers compare eating chickpeas to eating some other legume? Black-eyed peas, perhaps? I mean, perhaps eating 26 ounces of ANY legume would have the same or similar results.

Thanks, sunnyfrog. I have tried Tabbouleh, but it's been so long I forget what it tastes like. I am going to try making that Falafel and eating the Tabbouleh again. Maybe I can find a recipe for it too.

I had falafel in a pita with hummus and some kind of sauce and it was delicious...this was at college years ago and from a store that was owned by a guy from the Middle East...it was homemade by him. I don't know how good the mixes from the grocery are. Tabbouleh is also a really tasty Middle Eastern salad dish and healthy too. Try 'em out!

Has anyone made or eaten Falafel? They are little fried chickpea patties. I've never tasted them, but have found a recipe on line and am thinking about trying them. Just wanted an opinion.

I have been making my own yogurt and it is so delicious. Grocery store yogurt doesn't even compare. I bought an inexpensive yogurt maker from ebay. It took 3 batches but now I have it just right. You must follow directions exactly and you will get the hang of it soon. Add your own sweetener and fruit. I love it!

It's ironic that the first newsletter I got hit on the only two things I cannot get to taste like anything but what they are. Yogurt and chickkpeas/hummus--no matter how many tricks are offered. I am going to try the chickpea stew if I can get all the seeds out of it. stay tuned and MANY thanks for this delightful site.

I have been using acai liquid products for the past 3 months. The only weight loss I have experienced,is a much lighter wallet. My energy levels haven't changed either. The brand used was Genesis Today,Acai 100. each ounce contains 30,000mg.

Please REALIZE...Garbanzo Beans are not related to Soy products or Soybeans. So people who want to comment about a other Species of legumes like soy or greenbeans or butter beans please by all means go to related sites to discuss them. You might make people think Garbanzos are Soy and they are NOT! I had a dream once where a co-worker gave a recipe to another friend at work. The next day I wrote it down...it's become a favorite dish known as Ricardo's Garbanzo Goulash. Follow directions on small box of mac & cheese, Saute a 1/2# of hamburger w/ chopped 1/2 onion. Add a can of tomato soup & drained can of Garbanzo same as Chickpeas. Season to taste. Careful w/ salt there is hidden salt in soup & cheese mix. Blend everything together & serve w/ fresh vegi's. Ricardo to this day denies ever having such a recipe..wink wink...I need more dreams like this. Try chopped black olives for garnish too.

I hate soy (except in soy sauce) but love hummus--there is a good hummus mix available in some Wal-Mart supercenters made by a brand called Sadaf--I can recommend it. All you have to do is mix it with water and whatever other flavorings you want (I use olive oil and herbs) and it's a delicious way to consume chick peas.

I had a breast care doctor warn me about soy products. They can make the breasts very tender. She may have had more reasons but it's been three years since that info came to me. She was definitely not a fan of soy.

On soy - I take Synthroid for underactive thyroid/hypothyroid & I have been reading that soy products can impact thryroid medication. Would be interested in input from others. I have enough trouble being tired & battling my weight; eating only vegetables, salmon & chicken, whole grains, etc - no junk food and walking 1 1/2 to 2 miles per day - do not want to defeat the purpose of taking the medication. Your experiences?

I also would like to warn about over-doing soy products, especially if you're at risk for cancer. A friend has been battling breast cancer & has had her breasts & ovaries removed. Her doctor says she & most of her female relatives are soy-sensitive (due to the estrogen-like hormones) & that it likely accelerated her tumor's growth. She warned all of her family to stay away from soy-products. My mother died after battling ovarian cancer & her doctor said the same thing. I've also been told that most of the benefits from soy must be gained over a life-time (starting young) & that the benefits are small when started later in life.

while the benefits of legumes are undisputable (nutrient dense, naturally-occurring vegetable protein, etc.), be careful about soy consumption -- it WILL mess up your thyroid! and that pronouncment is from the ranking expert on diseases of the thyroid, dr. boris catz -- the guy who (literally) wrote the book on the subject.

I'm sure that soy is very good for lots of people & I used to use soy milk for all my milk needs, including in my cereal. I thought I was doing all the right things with it & eating lots of raw veggies & fruits but was gaining weight & felt tired a lot. So my doctor sent me to the hospital dietician for weight control, mostly due to hypothyroidism. She worked on a diet for my thyroid as well as my cholesterol, sugar, etc...
A study found that soy products as well as raw green veggies were now good for hypothroidism due to hormones & enzymes in them. I can have other raw veggies & all the cooked greens I want though. I followed this pattern for a few months & saw results in weight but more importantly, I felt much better overall.
Check with your doctor or dietician if you have any thyroid disease first. I don't know the effects on HYPERthyroidism compared to HYPOthyroidism. You would need to ask about that if you have HYPER instead.

With all due respect to the last post I wanted to say that I have lost eight+ pounds in the past month while eating my hummus and chickpea soup very frequently. The soup is filling so I find my appetite satisfied on less food. I have the hummus pita on the days I have another type of soup.... for a soup and sandwich meal.,,,usually with vegetable soup. That also makes for a very satisfying meal. I have been losing all this weight without gnawing hunger.

It was good to know about the purine, because I have a family member who just got gout for the first time. Thank you.

From a nutritional standpoint, chickpeas are an excellent source of protein, proteins that are devoid of purines, and are therefore ideally suited to those who suffer from gout. With respect to other legumes they have a higher fat content, which makes them more caloric; they are therefore not what one wants during a diet. However, they are quite rich in calcium, making them a good choice for combating osteoporosis, are also rich in iron, and are an excellent source of fiber. They’re instead sodium-poor, which makes them a good bet for those on reduced sodium diets.

Take a ziplock baggy, pour about a tablespoon of olive oil into it. Add spices that you like (I use garlic powder, oregano & sometimes a little parmesan cheese). Drain the beans, put them into the bag, & shake it up well. Pour all onto a cookie sheet. Bake them at 450 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. A few might turn black so just remove them. Bake them until crisp. They're a GREAT snack!

simply drain a can of Chickpeas and saute them in Olive oil until brown and crispy....add a little salt and pepper if you like...
really great snack, beats potato chips and pretzels, hands down.

chick peas are tasty and good for you , but for a site like this to cite a study such as the limited and flawed one on this page is ridiculous.

From plums: Buy a packet of dried chick peas, wash thoroughtly and put your slow cooker to work overnight. Add a pew cloves of garlic and some Mrs Dash Seasoning Salt as needed - Control your taste

To KSS1, 25oz. of garbanza beans would only be about 1 and 1/2 cans of beans. Not hard to eat that in one week. The cans I buy are 15 oz. each, so not a real problem. Green tea, beans, lots of veggies and fruit and soy products have helped me a lot, and almonds, each day. Good luck. I am 73 and pretty healthy. Smile a lot !!!!!

25 ounces of chick peas is an awful lot, more than 11/2 pounds a week. No wonder they lost weight, there was no room to eat anything else! And I am a vegetarian and eat chick peas all the time. Just not for every meal...

I use chickpeas/garbanzo beans in curries,salads etc.Because I use them a lot.I cook & freeze portions in freezer bags,so that, it is ready to use when I need it.Its tastier & healthier ,than from the can.

I make my own hummus, also. It's great in a pita or wrap as a filling with your favorite fresh veggies to add a little crunch. One of the ways I really like to eat it is to thin it out with broth and use it as a salad dressing, I also make a wonderful chickpea soup with carrots, red & yellow peppers, celery, garlic, and tomato paste, Flavored with tahini, red curry, and sea salt. It is yummy!

The soup and hummus freeze wonderfully. Great for batch cooking.

I buy organic dried garbanzos from whole foods, soak it overnight, cook it and make hummus spread/dip. Much cheaper than buying in cans, lower salt, also they could be frozen after cooked.
