What Can I Expect in Terms of Recovering Strength After Surgery/Treatments?
There are three stages during recovery that you will go through.
Stage 1 is the very beginning of recovery from surgery or at the beginning of chemotherapy/radiation treatments. You may feel sore and tired or may be experiencing nausea. You may be able to do some exercises in bed to move your arms and legs or to keep your range of motion; talk to your doctor first. Don't use resistance (weights, bands, your own weight).
Stage 2 is a few days or weeks after surgery or treatment. You may be feeling a little better and may be starting to gain back some of your strength. While in stage 2 you should be up and walking around for part of the day and getting back into some regular daily activities, such as brushing your teeth at the sink, getting dressed every morning, and making yourself something to eat.
Stage 3 is when you begin to feel like yourself again. Your schedule includes working out with weights and tubes, engaging in activities that elevate your heart rate, and enjoying all of the regular daily activities you used to participate in. Try a 20-minute Fitness Plan.
