Biological Therapy (Biotherapy or Immunotherapy)

Biological therapy (also known as biotherapy or immunotherapy) uses the body's own immune system to fight off cancer cells and/or to help reduce side effects from other types of cancer treatments. This works by:

  • Enhancing and stimulating the immune system to ward off cancer cells
  • Repairing the immune system's natural cancer-fighting functions
  • Eliminating/suppressing cancer cell growth
  • Promoting healthy cellular growth
  • Preventing cancer cells from spreading

How it's used: Biotherapy is a drug therapy administered at a hospital through injection, instillation of solutions, and intravenous infusion.

Side effects: These can vary from person to person. Some people may experience rashes and swelling around the injection site and/or flu-like symptoms. You should be monitored for bone pain, fatigue, and appetite loss.
