Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional therapy helps you replenish any nutrient shortages and helps you maintain a healthy diet. Diet is an important part of cancer treatment. Eating correctly before, during, and after treatment can help you feel better and stronger. The main goals of nutritional therapy are to:
- Prevent malnutrition
- Minimize nutrition-related side effects and complications
- Preserve lean body mass
- Protect your ability to fight infection
- Maintain your strength
How it's used: A cancer nutritional specialist can guide you through a helpful and healthy diet depending on which stage of treatment you are experiencing. When maintaining the diet cannot be achieved through eating by mouth, you may be fed by enteral nutrition (through a tube) or by parenteral (through the bloodstream) nutrition.
