To understand how your body really functions, we want you to think of it as a home -- as your home. Both are important investments. Both provide shelter to invaluable personal property. And both are places you want to protect with all your power.

You know it's much easier to take steps to prevent problems and treat minor ones than to let everything deteriorate to the point where your house needs a major overhaul to continue functioning properly. The same goes for your body.

That's why we're giving you the tools to change it, maintain it, decorate it, and strengthen it! YOU: The Owner's Manual is like Home Depot for your body. Like they say, "You can do it, we can help." Because the more familiar you are with the inner workings of your anatomy, the more confident you'll feel about making repairs and doing basic body upkeep.

To get you started on your body beautification, here's an intro to five of your vital systems and a few hints on how to keep them running well for years to come.

  1. Your Heart and Arteries (aka Cardiovascular System)
Think of it as: The main water supply for your house.
Maintain it by: Keeping everything flowing with exercise, watching your levels (blood pressure and cholesterol), feeding it, and giving it a rest.

  2. Your Brain and Nervous System
Think of it as: The fuse box for your house.
Maintain it by: Testing it on a regular basis, and maintaining the power supply with brain pills, brain foods, and using your imagination.

  3. Your Bones, Joints and Muscles (aka Musculoskeletal System)
Think of it as: The two-by-fours that support and protect the inner structure of your house.
Maintain it by: Keeping them strong, flexible, and properly aligned.

  4. Your Lungs (aka Respiratory System)
Think of it as: The ventilation -- what gets air in and out of the house.
Maintain it by: Testing it regularly, changing the filters, taking a closer look at it, adding some greenery, and making it smoke-free.

  5. Your Digestive System
Think of it as: The plumbing.
Maintain it by: Not being embarrassed by it, paying closer attention to what you put in it, and cutting back on HFCS.
