Here's How to Interpret Your Cholesterol Test Results

Depending on which test you have done, your blood lipid values will be presented in one of three ways. The values are given in terms of milligrams per deciliter of blood (mg/dL). (Here's how often you should have your cholesterol screened.)

  • A total cholesterol test measures your total cholesterol value, presented as one numerical figure. For example, you may receive a value such as 172 mg/dL or 228 mg/dL.
  • A test that measures total and LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels.

Make your cholesterol numbers better without medication. Eat these foods to lower your cholesterol naturally.
