Meet Dr. Amy Wechsler, RealAge Skin Expert
Author of The Mind-Beauty Connection: 9 Days to Reverse Stress Aging and Reveal More Youthful, Beautiful Skin
Amy Wechsler, MD, has a rare combination of skills: She is one of only two U.S. doctors who are board certified in both dermatology and psychiatry. As a result, she brings an unusually insightful skin care approach to RealAge members, to her dermatology patients in New York City -- and now, to readers of her striking new book.
Evidence of the mind-beauty connection walks into Dr. Amy's office every day: "Premature aging and adult acne are the two most common skin problems I see, and stress and exhaustion are often at the bottom of both," she says. She blames the warp-speed pace of our lives, which keeps many of us super stressed, tightly wound, sleep-deprived -- and looking like it. While she knows we may never be able to totally turn off all the pressures (if only!), she has plenty of combination strategies -- from her own favorite stress busters to her #1 wrinkle reverser -- to help turn back the effects of tension and time. She shares these simple yet powerful techniques for undoing the wrinkles, spots, and sagging of stress aging on our Simply Beautiful Skin Center (www.RealAge.com/simply-beautiful-skin) and in her newly released companion book, The Mind-Beauty Connection: 9 Days to Reverse Stress Aging and Reveal More Youthful, Beautiful Skin.
"Happily, stress aging is very reversible," she says. "You can get great results without taking extreme or expensive steps, like going under a knife. My approach is uncomplicated, effective, and empowering. No frills. No gimmicks. Just easy daily practices that can bring out radiant, natural beauty."
Step one is to figure out how old -- or young -- you really look by taking the groundbreaking SkinAge Test, devised by Dr. Amy and a team of RealAge scientists and researchers. It's the starting point for her step-by-step 9-Day Renewal Plan, which will rejuvenate you from the inside out in ways everyone will notice.
"The mind-beauty connection is powerful," Dr. Amy says. "It can dramatically affect how well -- and how fast -- you age." The rewards for solving it go far beyond a quick fix. They're transforming. You will not only look better but also sleep better and feel better as you begin to feel healthier, less stressed, and more alive.
Dr. Wechsler frequently appears on television and in print, including on the Today show and in the New York Times, Marie Claire, and O, The Oprah Magazine. She and her husband live in Manhattan, where they're raising two young children.
