Learn More: Prostate Screening
American Cancer Society
- Until recently, supported screening with annual DRE and PSA tests beginning at the age of 50 for all men; earlier if at higher risk.
- Position was modified in 1997 -- from stating that men "should undergo" annual screening beginning at the age of 50 to men "should be offered" annual screening with full information about the potential benefits and side effects.
- Men in high-risk groups, such as those with a strong family history (e.g., two or more affected first-degree relatives) or African Americans are encouraged to begin at a younger age (e.g., 45 years).
