Intake of Fluids
Drinking less fluid does not decrease urination. It is important to drink about eight glasses of water per day to keep urine fairly diluted (which reduces the chance of infection) and to prevent dehydration. Sip water over the course of the day rather than drinking large quantities at one time.
Fluid intake habits have the greatest impact on nighttime symptoms. To prevent frequent urination at night, do not drink any fluids, especially beverages containing caffeine and alcohol, after 6 P.M. Urinating before going to bed may also reduce the need to urinate frequently at night.
