Recommendations of Medical and Healthcare Organizations
Today, there are no medical or healthcare organizations that endorse mass screening for prostate cancer. But these organizations disagree in their recommendations, at least for men at average risk for prostate cancer. Some recommend against screening until evidence shows that the benefits clearly outweigh the risks, while others recommend providing men with information about the benefits and risks of screening and letting them decide for themselves. There is more consensus in support of screening men with a family history of prostate cancer or African American men. For these men, who have the highest risk of developing prostate cancer, it is really more of a case of early detection than screening.
