Studies in Progress and Their Results
The National Cancer Institute's Prostate, Lung, Colorectal & Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial is a true, randomized, controlled, trial of screening for prostate cancer, as well as these other cancers. It will determine whether screening reduces deaths from these cancers. It will involve 150,000 Americans between 55 and 75. One-half will agree to be selected by chance to receive screening tests. This study is ongoing, but definitive results will not be available for 8 to 10 years.
