Feverfew - History and Folklore

Feverfew is an Old English pronunciation of the Latin, febrifugia, or fever-flee, used to describe many plants believed to be effective in lowering fevers. Plants called pyrethrum refer to the same concept in Greek herbal descriptions. The term feverfew is now applied to T. parthenium, as well as to its close relative tansy, and to chamomile, gentian, and pellitory. In some traditional herbal guides still in print, feverfew is suggested as a remedy for nervousness or hysteria or as an antimalarial when bound to the wrists. Feverfew has been used in the twentieth century for its reputation in reducing fever and arthritis symptoms and in preventing migraine headaches.
