Ginger - Traditional Uses
The history of ginger, as a spice and a drug, is extensive. In China, the recorded use of ginger spans approximately 25 centuries. In one early reference, ginger was an ingredient in a legendary formula to prevent death by poisoning. Throughout the Middle Ages, ginger was one of the pungent spices used to disguise the taste of nearly spoiled meat; in the sixteenth century, ginger was recommended for improving digestion.
