RealAge Tip of the DAY for March 5, 2003
Red Flag Foods
When it comes to colon cancer, some foods may increase your risk more readily than others.

Recent research in women suggests that diets that favor foods such as red or processed meats, sweets, french fries, and refined grains (white bread, pasta) may increase the risk of colon cancer. Instead, opt for a diet full of vegetables, fruits, fish, poultry, legumes (beans), and whole-grain foods, which may reduce colon cancer risk.

Colon cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the United States. In a recent study, diets high in processed meats, red meats, soda, sweets, high-fat dairy products, and breads made with highly refined flour were shown to increase the risk of colon cancer by as much as 46 percent. However, a diet high in fruits and vegetables may be protective against colon cancer.
RealAge Benefit: Eating a diverse diet that is low in calories and high in nutrients can make your RealAge as much as 4 years younger.
