Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmune diseases can cause immune system failures that pose serious health problems and threats to dogs. With autoimmune diseases, the immune system fails to recognize some part of the body, and attacks this unknown part. The causes of autoimmune diseases are not fully understood, but there does seem to be a genetic link to some cases. Dogs who are fighting other dog diseases are more susceptible to autoimmune diseases.

Autoimmune medications to improve dog health include azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, and prednisone.
