Ingredients

  • .333 cup(s) sugar
  • .333 cup(s) water
  • 12  whole cloves
  • 1.5 stick(s) cinnamon
  • 1  nutmeg, crushed
  • peel of 1 small lemon
  • peel of half an orange
  • 1 bottle(s) red wine
  • 1 cup(s) lemon juice

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, boil the sugar and water for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg and let the mixture soak overnight.
  3. Strain and return to a saucepan.
  4. Grate the thin outer layer of the lemon and orange peels to make a zest. Then add the zest, wine, and lemon juice to the sugar mixture.
  5. Heat thoroughly and serve.
