10 Things to Get You Ready to Quit
- Make a personal pact with yourself to quit.
- Set a quit date. (My quit day is __/__/__.)
- Write on a card the three most important reasons why you are quitting.
- Look at that card several times each day.
- Prior to quitting, eliminate smoking in two or three situations that usually prompt you to smoke.
- Reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke to one pack a day or less.
- Change to a less desirable brand of cigarettes.
- Discard your lighter and matches.
- Carry your cigarettes in a different place than you usually do.
- Spend a little time each day imagining yourself in stressful situations in which you are not smoking.
