The Celebration Walk: Who Sampled Whom
Not a fan of rap -- yet? These highlights might change your mind. This list pairs a handful of hip-hop tunes with the sources of their samples. If you are a fan, the list is an excuse to dig up the original versions of these melodies and beats. Loads of songs would work brilliantly here, but I focused on ones that were positive and celebratory, including a roll call of happening cities, praise for one's mother, and more. The only apparent exception: "Hip Hop Is Dead." Despite its rougher tone (and title -- though we've listed the edited version here), it's a meditation on the magic and potential of rap music. In those senses, it's a celebratory cut, too.

Whether you walk slow, fast, or in between, I'll help you find the perfect tunes to keep you company -- and rev you up or slow you down when you need it most. Beats per minute are included with every song, so you can match each perfectly to your routine (if you walk 3 mph, try music around 115 bpm; for 3.5 mph, try around 125 bpm; for 4 mph walk, try 135 bpm).
