Finding a Qualified Breast Exam Practitioner
Not all doctors are well trained in or comfortable performing a CBE. Many medical schools do not devote much time to teaching students how to do a good CBE, and residents don't always get on-the-job training. As a result, many physicians aren't sure of what to do. In fact, 45% of family practitioners surveyed by the University of Massachusetts said their ability to do a good CBE was compromised by their lack of confidence in their skills. Ask your primary care physician or your gynecologist to refer you to a breast specialist. Specialists are generally better trained and are more comfortable doing a CBE.
